First letter of 2012
So here is the letter to All yall hope you enjoy it.
Things are going pretty good here in Oklahoma, just like I was saying
yesterday. I'm still loving the work, loving Shawnee and loving my
companions. It was so awesome to talk to all of you yesterday, and to see
how your busy lives are going. Yesterday we got fed rather well and also
on Christmas Eve we did as well. But all around it was good company and
good memories. Just having a blast here in Oklahoma. Life is so
good I don't know how it could get any better. The work is hard but well
worth and I'm learning a lot about myself and about the gospel and about my
relationship with my Savior Jesus Christ. I hope that you all had a Merry
Christmas and I'll write to you all next week. Keep me in your prayers
and I'll do the same. Love ya,
Sincerely,
Elder Glad
Merry Christmas 2011
Alright so this week was awesome, still going through some
transfer pains and we have the numbers to prove it. I guess when I was
with Elder Karl we didn't think about the future that much and just the here
and the now so now we don't have much of a teaching pool because well, we
baptized all but one of them, and she's out of town now, and oh yeah the Crooks
almost dropped us but we went over there towards the end of the week and talked
to brother Crook and he voiced some of his concerns that I don't think would
ever have come up if Elder Karl and I had continued to teach them in the way
that we were, it was just awesome to be lead by the spirit in what I needed to
say and what I needed to ask. He was crying after we finished saying the
prayer. That was cool, but he didn't end up coming to church which really
kind of stunk. But with having such a small teaching pool we've been
tracting everyday for at least 1 hour which is something that I never did with
Elder Karl, I think I put in 3 hours tracting with Elder Karl and with Elder
Cobbley we've already put in twice that this week, so we will have a good
teaching pool this coming week and in the future, though with Christmas I think
its going to be hard to gett member presents and things like that. This
week we had a couple of days where the Lord was just trying our patience, but
my faith was increased on those days so much I could hardly believe it.
We've also got a bunch of part member families and return appointments coming
out of the wood work that we will probably be working with. I'm not sure
what time I'll be calling on Christmas, probably between 12:00 and 2:00 on
Christmas day our time. So you can probably plan on that, we are just going
to call on our cell phone from our apartment. Plans for Christmas though
are as follows, well we've got dinner at the Raney's which should be
interesting, I don't know if I told you but they are a family where the parents
can't have kids so they've adopted like 5 and now almost 6 boys, they also are
the ones we celebrated Thanksgiving with. Not my favorite family in the
ward but there alright. It will be good. We've also been invited to
a couple of other peoples homes on Christmas day which will be pretty good,
just a little weird and different. Yes I have gotten the packages, they
are sitting under our tree and I'm so excited to open them. But Elder
Cobbley says that he'll rat me out if I open them early. Well other
experiences from this week, lets see. Well it really kind of stunk, my
second baptism Joseph has been doing really well, then all of a sudden we were
going to stop by there the other day and he basically told us that he can't got
to church anymore. Well we went over there yesterday and he said that his
sisters would disown him if he continued to go to church, he said that they
were afraid for his life. I just hope that he makes the right decision I
really hope that he does. But if he doesn't thats his own free agency and
we can't take that away from him. Just kind of depressing, but he'll be
ok, I hope. Well thats about it for this week, I'll email each of you
indiviually. Merry Christmas and I'll talk to you on Sunday.
Love
Elder Todd Glad
Elder Glad Happy
So this week has been an awesome week we had a lot of cool
things happen and alot of weird things happen as well. One of the neatest
things that happened this week was Elder Karl and I were able to be there when
a family in our ward got sealed for time and all eternity in the house of the
Lord here in Oklahoma City. By the way Oklahoma City temple is the
smallest that I've seen so far. We were able to go through a session and
see them get sealed. There were 4 other missionaries that have been
working with this family there as well. They are a crazy family that if
you looked at them you wouldn't think but they are really trying now. we
went over to their house on Thanksgiving and they had changed a lot. Some
other things that happened this week were Thanksgiving of course, but like A.J.
said not many people wanted to talk to us and we couldn't get hardly any
members to come out with us. So 0 new investigators this week which is
pathetic and we only had 8 member present lessons. But while were talking
about key indicators, we did get one baptism and one confirmation.
BBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH. It was so awesome I was just
like so happy that day nothing could get me down it was crazy. Elder Karl
baptized him and I confirmed him, one of the neatest experiences that I've ever
had. Giving a blessing is kind of different it isn't what Ithought it
would be, but I felt like I was saying what the spirit was dictating for me to
say. So that was awesome, we also have planned for 2 other baptisms this
week which will be awesome if they go through. That will be 3 baptisms in
a transfer. Then we have 2 more scheduled for after the transfer.
So we don't know if things will remain the same through the transfer but I
guess that we will see. I bought some clippers today with some money from
grandma so I'm going to try the oldest of missionary traditions and cut my own
hair its going to be interesting. Well thats really all for this week.
Everything is going great I'm loving the work, and growing a lot. Love
you all ,
Sincerely,
Elder Todd Glad
Transfers
Dear Family,
In your own separate emails I've pretty much told you what
all has happened this week. We had a baptism on Saturday and I was able
to confirm Joseph on Sunday, we also had Temple Conference before that, and on
that note. Karrilyn if you are getting on my facebook I would ask you to
please stop. President Taylor said that there was a list of 10 people
that are actively getting on facebook so if you could stop just incase, I guess
I could ask him if that would be alright but until further notice that would be
awesome. I was also told basically that I need to get a hair
cut, and so this morning I finally did it. I kind of messed up on my sideburns
but I don't think that it looks to bad. I guess the difference between a
good haircut and a bad haircut is about 2 weeks. Also we got our transfer
calls on Saturday, Elder Karl is going to transfering out and going Zone Leader
in the South Zone which kind of stinks for me, I think that my biggest
problem with that is that I don't know where stuff is very well yet. I
guess this will help me learn and learn fast. I just pray that the
Lord will help me. My new companion has only been our for 3 months so
he's just one transfer ahead of me so we're both going to be as green as the
front lawn and taking on Shawnee by ourselves. I hope that he's a good worker
and that he really wants to work hard because I know that I do. If there
is one thing that Elder Karl has taught me is that if you don't
feel like working work till you do. So after we got all those calls
we have just been going around and telling everybody goodbye and stuff for
Elder Karl. Last night we went to the Carters, and they remind me a lot
of home. They are this family with red hair, all of them and its just
awesome. We had dinner and watched the first presidency message with them
which was pretty legit. Then Brother Carter took us downstairs and played
some drums for us, he played for the Osmonds a while back. Just awesome
to hear his story and everything. But basically thats all that has happened
this week. I love you all and hope that you know how much the Lord can
help us through the hard times. Remember that the Lord sees the whole
picture while we only see a small portion of it.
Sincerely,
Elder Todd Glad

12/4
Well I guess mom wants me to send a email to the family, I
don't know if I'll have enough time to do this and to answer all the emails
that each of you have had so forgive me if that happens. Well this week
has been really good, nothing to bad happened, no firey dragons in the toliet,
or other things (dad knows what I mean). We have been having a lot of
success but we haven't really found very man people this week. The people
that we are teaching though are progressing well. A lot of them came to
church this Sunday, so that is awesome. Elder Karl says that when
investigators come to church the possibility of them getting baptized increases
by 60% so that is good, and we had 8 investigators there yesterday so that was
awesome. This week is going to be awesome, there is Thanksgiving on
Thursday which is going to be a phachaunga, which is spanish means party, we
have a couple of different people feeding us Thanksgiving dinner which is going
to be legit. We also have a turkey bowl Thanksgiving morning which is
going to be sweet I'm so excited for that. The only bad thing about
Thanksgiving is we can't go out proselyting, so the only investigators that we
can see are those that we formerly set up an appointment with so that kind of
stinks but oh well life goes on. What else is happening this week, well I
guess nothing much except for a BAPTISM, boooooo yaaaaaaa. I'm so
excited I can barely contain myself if only you knew how excited I am right now
its going to be off the hook. His name is Justin White and he referred
himself a couple of weeks ago, like the week before I got here. He played
football for Weber State so he made a lot of Mormon friends that went on missions
and have returned and told him that he should look up the missionaries.
So he did and now he is getting baptized this Satuday. He is also dating
a Mormon girl from Utah, whos friends with Hiedi Hotchkiss. Karrilyn I
don't know if I know her but could you look her up for me that would be
awesome. So that is going to be awesome. Really thats all thats
planned for this week. I hope that you all have a great week and I'll
hopefully be able to write you all personally, but if I don't I love you and miss
you all and hope that you have a wonderful week.
Sincerely,
Elder Glad
